Jake - Our School Dog

I LOVED my teacher.  I also love Jake our school dog

Jake is a Cavapoo - an intelligent, friendly and sociable breed of dog, which is also hypoallergenic!

He lives with Mrs. Hayes (our Nursery Manager and Early Years Leader) and her family and has undertaken training with Dog's Trust and Starlight Barking.  

Jake is our Reading and Wellbeing School Dog.  He greets parents/carers and children in the mornings at the school gate, is available for children and staff to interact with during 'Time to Talk' sessions (as well as other ad-hoc times for wellbeing needs) and listens to children read either in small groups or individually.  Jake will also visit classes to see what's going on, just to spend time with the children there or during break time or lunch time and will attend other school events too.

All children in school complete a lesson by Wood Green Animal Shelter on an annual basis.  They also learn about "What Woody Wants" - all about dog safety, including how to interact wtih dogs safely and in a way that respects dogs wishes.  One of the main messages is:

Jake will only interact with those who have given permission for this.  Permission is sought when you first join or visit the school.
