Art and Design
Intent:
By developing specific art skills and by using art and design to support learning across other subjects, our children will gain an understanding of a variety of art forms. They will continuously improve their drawing, painting and sculpting as well as developing a range of progressively demanding art and design techniques as they move through the school. Children will observe the world around them, including their own culture and the wider world as well as studying the work of creatives in history. While learning art and design, they also develop confidence, creativity, curiosity, motor skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, collaboration and reflective learning.
Implementation:
Mrs. Paine is our Art & Design Co-ordinator. Mrs. Paine is currently on maternity leave so Mrs. Bingley will co-ordinate the subject until her return later in the 2021-2022 Academic Year.
At St. Mary's, Art and Design is taught through "Expressive Arts and Design" within the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum in Acorn and Chestnut (Nursery and Reception):

As a school we subscribe to the National Society for Education in Art and Design to support our knowledge, understanding and development of the subject.
Impact:
All children are assessed in Art and Design by their teachers, on a termly basis. Mrs. Paine then analyses the attainment and progress of the whole school in this area. This information informs future teaching and learning in Art and Design.
